Abstract

This paper first presents the AC/DC load flow algorithm used for the analysis of DC railway systems. Based on the load flow results, the fuzzy dwell time control of the train, the tap position and control angle control of rectifier/inverter station are then described. These are implemented for improving energy efficiency and operation in a DC railway system. 1 Introduction Cost effectiveness is always an important criterion in the operation of a modern rapid transit system. Energy consumption of a rapid transit system operating in a typical system contributes approximately 30-40% of the total operating cost. Hence, there is a great incentive to reduce the energy cost of railway operation. In most DC railway systems, trains are equipped with both regenerative
