Abstract

The problem of determining a suitable schedule for the train traffic on an underground railway network is faced in this paper. In particular, railway lines made up of track circuits (TCs) are considered. The schedule is obtained by the solution of a mathematical optimization problem, which considers a model simplified with respect to the reality, in oreder to make the mathematical programming problem tractable. A deterministic event-driven simulator, based on a more complete model can be used to test the feasibility and the quality of the schedule determined. The paper describes the simplified model, the optimization problem, and proposes an algorithmic approach to obtain an acceptable solution. 1 Introduction In recent years the automate
