Abstract

Railway scheduling is a large-scale combinatorial problem including various kinds of constraints, traffic demands, and management requirements. It is essentially impossible to satisfy all requirements. Therefore, human experts must prepare practical train timetables by compromising over some requirements by trial and error methods. We have developed railway scheduling support systems for high-density train operations. These systems can prepare schedules automatically, and support interactive modification with trial and error method by experts.
