Many products are designed without specification or guidance. Engineers and Suppliers continue to develop new joint configurations and materials in an attempt to improve upon the poor record of serviceability. The agencies have experienced the difficulty of selecting the appropriate type of bridge deck joint. According to the data collected from the surveys of the joint performance by many agencies, they concluded that the life span of a joint depends on the material of the joint components, the water tightness, resistance to temperature, and the ultra violet rays on the bridge deck, resistance to wear and tear, fatigue load and the resistance
