Abstract Features of magnetic shielding and electromagnetic shielding are considerably affected by the permeability, conductivity, frequency, and so on. In this paper, the effects of those parameters on the properties of shielding plates are examined systematically. It is shown that the shielding characteristics of ferromagnetic material are considerably changed by the permeability, conductivity and dimensions of the plate, if it is used for shielding in an ac field (electromagnetic shielding). 1 Introduction There are two kinds of shielding methods for electrical machines and electronic instruments.
