Abstract

The petroleum industry is substantially dependent on productivity, sustainability and environmental responsibility. This research aims to analyse global trends in Integrated Management Systems (IMS) through bibliometric analysis and a systematic review, identifying key trends and future research directions. Three phases are defined: (i) search strategies, (ii) bibliometric analysis and (iii) literature review using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) method. A total of 1,137 publications indexed in Scopus (1969–2025) were identified, evidencing an annual growth of 8.5%, with the main contributors being: China (174 publications), the United States (112), the Russian Federation (74), and Brazil (67). Sixty-five percent of the studies focus on improving performance and preventing occupational hazards, based on standards from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001 (quality), ISO 14001 (environmental management), and ISO 45001 (occupational health and safety). However, significant trend topics in research were identified related to the limited exploration and application of emerging technologies (artificial intelligence, blockchain and machine learning), culturally tailored to key factors for optimizing logistics processes and operations, contributing to greater efficiency and sustainability in the petroleum industry.
