Abstract

This study deals with the identification of the heterogeneity statistical parameters on the basis of a given set of measurements in a 2-D aquifer. The reliability of the identification is investigated with regard to: (i)The number of available data located on a regularly spaced grid, i.e. the measurement grid density; (ii) the location of the measurements on a grid or randomly in the field, i.e. the location of the measurements, (iii) the size of the sampled area as a part of the total domain. The present study employs a theoretical analysis based on the theory of the multivariate random variables and a numerical procedure based on Monte Carlo proc
