Abstract

This paper presents certain techniques which are useful in particle tracking schemes applied in zoned and fractured aquifers. First, three techniques to check whether a particle has crossed an internal or external field boundary are outlined. Then, the applicability of these techniques in locating fixed mesh nodes in zoned aquifers is shown. Particle generation and removal at fractures and abstraction wells is discussed next. Finally, a technique to check whether particles have crossed field boundaries in 3-D flow field simulations is presented. 1 Introduction Particle tracking techniques offer a powerful tool for numerical simulation of
