Abstract

The effects of an earthquake on buildings should be analysed taking into ac- count the soil-foundation-superstructure interaction. In this paper a new FEM code, called SOFIA, is used to compare the behaviour of the classical fixed- based columns scheme with that of a plane-frame on a significant sand volume. In each case a pseudo-static analysis in linear-elastic condition was carried out, simulating a push-over test. The considered frame is decidedly non-symmetric.
