Abstract

In dynamic problems soil-structure systems have often been examined with two opposite approaches: on the one hand accurate soil dynamic analyses with a simplified superstructure have been proposed, on the other hand accurate super- structure dynamic analyses with a simplified soil have been used. Recently more sophisticated numerical methods, that consider global soil-structure systems, have been worked out. In the present paper a new finite element code, named SOFIA, was used to evaluate soil-foundation-frame interaction.
