Trasporti, Universita di Cagliari, Rzza D'Armi, 09100 Cagliari, Italy 1 Introduction Trips for daily shopping are on the increase within urban mobility: Vickerman and Barmby (1984) have assessed that these trips account for 17% of total urban mobility. Barnard (1982) states that daily shopping accounts for 10% in Australia, while in Italy studies updated to 1992 have indicated that the corresponding figure is 13%. A number of researchers have developed representation models but their analysis has been limited to a few aspects, such as defining the best localization for shops, traditional behavioural analyses, and traffic impact models. Only a few researchers (Bacon, 1992) have recently tried to develop a different strategy based on the definition of an attraction model that uses frequency as an endogenous variable.
