Abstract

The aim of this study is to develop an evaluation method for streets' safety environment on non-arterial streets, for the purpose of street design for traffic calming. In this paper, first, a model to explain the safety perception of road users, using vehicle speed and the relative location of movers, is proposed. The model is estimated on the basis of experiments ascertaining the nature of the perception of danger by drivers, pedestrians and cyclists when they are approaching each other.
