Abstract

A finite difference procedure to simulate the dynamic debonding of mate- rial interfaces under impact and wave loading conditions is presented. The change of the physical configuration caused by interfacial debonding is mo- delled using a weighted average of two neighbouring solutions, without the need to adapt the computational mesh. A wave absorbing technique is used to concentrate the computational efforts on a kernel area near the interface. The dynamic contact response of debonded portions of the interface is also considered. Numerical examples are presented. Introduction It is of great interest to study the dynamic debonding of material interfaces under impact and wave loading conditions involved in many engineering fields. Because of the complexity of this problem, only a few theoreti
