Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine internal detonation transients, predict the structural response and evaluate the capability of the tools available. The local detonation analyses are carried out using an asymmetrically loaded three- dimensional FE model comprising 180" of the containment. As expected, the effect of the detonation is fairly local and the period needed to achieve the peak impulse affects the strain rate dependent yield stress. Also the effect of geometrical non-linearity is crucial. The results are compared with success criteria found in the literature. 1 Introduction This study is aimed to apply structural analysis methods to assess the performance of a steel containment under an internal hydrogen detonation.
