Abstract

This paper summarises how a station passenger simulation model (PEDROUTE) simulates the passenger movements through a station, the train arrival and departure pattern and how the impact of the variation of train schedules and service patterns can be evaluated using levels of service, passenger densities and delays and weighted service factors. The model simulation of emergency evacuations, based upon the scenarios of a train on fire or a station fire, is also described. The paper outlines the application of PEDROUTE for the design of the new N0rreport metro station in Copenhagen(Denmark), the stations for the Lisbon North-South Line (Portugal) and the Victoria Line Upgrade study (United Kingdom). 1 Introduction Passenger demands on railway and metro stations are often very peaked and can cause severe congestion on platforms, concourses and passa
