Realization Of An IT Strategy For Planning A Railway Sector Under Transformation

During the last eight years the Swedish railways have been transformed from a traditional national monopoly organisation into an infrastructure authority (Banverket) and several traffic operators. SJ is still the dominating operator but through a step-by-step deregulation the possibilities for other operators to enter the market have been gradually opened. This paper will describe how an IT-strategy was formed in the first place to support the infrastructural planning of the Swedish railways and how this strategy was adjusted to take care of the new responsibilities for Banverket.
