Abstract

Simulation of automotive noise by advanced boundary element formulations L. ~ a u l ' , M. ~ischer' & U. ~ackenhorst~ 1 Institut A fur Mechanik, Universitat Stuttgart, Germany 2 Institut fur Baumechanik und Numerische Mechanik, Universitat Hannover, Germany Abstract An overview on applications of advanced boundary element techniques in automotive noise simulation is given. As an example, a sequential FEMHBEM approach to calculate the dynamic behavior and sound radiation of rolling tires is outlined in detail. The equations of motion for the wheel are developed in the frame of an Arbitrary Eulerian Lagrangian description with a time-independent formulation for steady state rolling and a spatial description of vibrations. The noise radiation caused by the vibration modes is computed by the symmetric hybrid boundary element method. 1 Introduction There is considerable need for reliable simulations of automotive noise in the design phase because necessary measures can be taken in time, rather th
