Abstract

A nonsingular form of the traction-BIE is extended to crack surfaces to form the basis for a nonsingular BEM algorithm suitable for single-domain fracture modeling. The nonsingular conforming BEM uses a piece-wise C*'" interpolation for the displacement discontinuity on the crack surface. The asymptotic behavior of the regularized displace- ment discontinuity corresponding to the exact solution is maintained in the approximate regularized density by relaxing the regularizing solution on all elements sharing the col- location point. In this fashion, all integrals computed in the BEM are weakly singular and are suitable for low-order integration since the approximate regularized density is C^'* in a neighborhood of the source point. The conforming BEM algorithm using regu- larized integrals over the entire crack surface is also well suited for m
