Abstract

Before a design of underground struct.ures, the ma.teria1 parameters lmve to be known from "in situ" measurement. geological maps and laboratory experiments. Some of t,hese methods are very expensive a.nd some very unreliable. Therefore, during tjhe construction of untlerground works, more accurate information on values of material parameters can be obtained using back analysis. Then, the numerical models can be improved in such a way that the designers can simulate various situation in the next steps of the construction of undergromld works. Thr back analysis presented in t,llis paper start,s with i~ieasured movemcnt, s of the tunnel face, and t,he design (free) para~net~ers serve t>he eigew ?;t,r.ains.
