Abstract

In a typical water quality monitoring of a water shed, pollutants are regularly measured in time and along a sequence of sites. Although many factors may be considered, one of the objectives in continuous monitoring is to identify the major contributing factors to the deterioration in water quality of the basin. Another objective is to choose a minimal subset of predictors that would explain most of the variability in the pollution index and hence critical values of the pollution levels may be drawn.
