Abstract

A numerical model is presented for the prediction of wave fields in both the interior and exterior fluid regions of a harbor. The water depth is assumed to be variable. The method is based on the solution of a time-dependent analysis including wave refraction, diffraction and partial reflection by the finite difference approach with the linear wave theory. The present numerical model has been validated in several stages. As for the exterior region the results of the wave shoaling by the present model have been compared with the experimental data. The wave fields in the interior region have also been compared with previous experimental works. Good agreement was obtained between the present model and previously obtained results. Based on these comparisons, it is concluded that the model can be applied to predict the wave fields in both the interior and exterior fluid regions of a harbor with varying depth and partial reflection. Finally, numerical examples of this application have been illustrated.
