Abstract

Decentralized water disposal systems to optimize the water resources management of the Lausitzer-Neisse river catchment area M. Burde & S. Stocksieker Brandenburg Technical University ofCottbus - BTUC, Germany Faculty of Environmental Sciences and Process Engineering Abstract In the last decade some very large flood events occurred in several European countries, one of that in summer 1997 within the catchment of the river ,,Lau- sitzer Neisse". These heavy flood events led to a new and controversial discus- sion about different strategies of rainwater management. Decentralised measures of flood protection, which received only little attention in the past, have to be ex- amined with regard to their contribution to a preventive flood protection. This is the main purpose of the described research project. Especially by realising a rainwater management in settlement areas and by improving the infiltrability of agricultural land subsurface flow and the storage-capacity of the underground soi
