Abstract

Steel materials used in the conveyance and storage of hydrocarbons in the petroleum industry are key to performance and efficiency. External factors controlled by environmental conditions, as well as internal factors related to material quality, influence corrosion processes, which pose a problem requiring solutions. The objective of this work is to conduct a systematic review of scientific literature on corrosion in the oil and gas industry using the Scopus database. This review aims to identify research trends, technologies employed for corrosion control and outstanding case studies that contribute to the scientific body of knowledge on the subject. The methodological process comprises: (i) defining search terms from the scientific databases, (ii) applying VOSviewer and bibliometrix software for general statistical analysis of these terms, and (iii) creating an analysis matrix focused on integrity management strategies against corrosion in Amazonian countries for systematic review. The results show that predictive modelling for corrosion monitoring, along with the application of protective coatings and corrosion inhibitors in CO2 and H2S-dominated environments, are the most widely studied global strategies for integrity management. Additionally, microbiologically influenced corrosion is the most extensively researched corrosion type. In Amazonian countries, similar trends are observed on a smaller scale, with non-destructive testing techniques and inline inspection also playing a significant role. Corrosion control and mitigation rely primarily on inhibitors, cathodic protection and nanoparticle technologies, depending on environmental conditions, depth and project budget.
