Abstract

Lean construction is critical to ensuring quality, regulatory compliance and project efficiency. The administration, control and supervision of civil works in the public sector have decreased the efficiency of the management of processes due to the need for more implementation and updating of control tools. This research aims to propose the use of tools of the Lean Construction philosophy through the analysis of a case study (an inspection project) and by conducting surveys and interviews with construction professionals to understand their perception and identify the critical points that allow for the improvement of inspection and control processes in the management of civil works sustainability. The method focuses on the one hand, on the application of Lean Construction criteria and, on the other, the criteria of the engineers’ experience in professional practice. Waste in execution time and administrative procedures detrimental to the development of the works were identified, recognizing the interference between the coordination and communication between those involved to improve the efficiency of the processes. Through professional experience and based on the evaluation of the audit project, a proposal was made to improve the administrative management of critical activities and to be able to apply them to other projects at public and private management levels. This will allow for synergy between the contractor, designer, administrator and inspector from the beginning of the planning and execution of the work and in the administrative management.
