Abstract

Seasonal variations of the temperature of the upper sea layer polluted with petroleum substances: mathematical model DKTz-lC G. Karbowniczek-Gratkowska , Medzcof Academy o/ ^zczecm, AA ABSTRACT In this paper a mathematical model of seasonal temperature var- iations in the upper sea layer polluted with petroleum sub- stances is presented basing on the ideas of Thompson 11J, Denman [2] and Kraus and Turner [3]. Expressions given by Czyszek [4] for the transmission of solar radiation in the sea have been utilized. The effect of temporary pollution has been accounted for by an appropriate modification of the absorption coefficient of sea water. The calculations have been carried out for long-term mean monthly values of the parameters charac- terizing the state of the Baltic environment (Southern Baltic). The influence of petroleum pollutants on the evolution and depth of the seasonal thermocline has been examined. INTRODUCTION Pol
