Abstract

Productivity calculations using method of sources and sinks J . E. Brooks Schlum berger Reservoir Completion Center, USA. Abstract We present a new method for calculating well-flow productivity of a perforated completion. The method creates the three-dimensional flow field around perforations by distributing suitable sources and sinks along the perforation axis and inside the wellbore. The source strengths are solved by satisfying known pressure conditions at the perforations, wellbore and far field, and by imposing a no-inflow condition at the wellbore. The method is quite general, allowing for arbitrary perforation size, shape and phasing. Wellbore damage, the crush zone surrounding the perforations and anisotropic permeabilities are also modeled. Results agree well with previous methods using finite elements for calculating productivity. The new method improves estimates of productivity in the presence of anisotropy and crush zone, where previous methods are inaccurate. Results of the produ
