Abstract

This paper aims to describe the objectives of the tribology investigation activities on the automotive internal combustion engine with the purpose of minimizing friction losses and noise. After an introduction on the most meaningful theoretical and experimental results achieved by numerous researchers, the mathematical models developed by the authors in relationship to the main lubricated components are presented. 1 Introduction The tribological analysis of the automotive internal combustion engines developed by the researchers in the last years, is aimed (Fig. 1): to the optimisation of the mechanical efficiency in order to reduce the consumptions, the emissions and Fig. 1 - The role of the engine tribology in the design optirnisation of ICES
