Abstract

Evaluation of the impact of new developments in traffic congested urban areas G.Mintsis, CTaxiltaris, S.Basbas Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, School of Technology Faculty of Rural & Surveying Engineering, Dept. of Transportation & Hydraulic Engineering, Greece Abstract New developments in traffic congested central areas usually impose the need to re-examine the existing land use - transportation system, and to implement certain transport measures and policies. The Concert Hall which has been recently constructed in the city of Thessaloniki with a capacity of 1476 places is such a case. This new development is located in a residential area, not far away from the city center, which face severe traffic and environmental associated problems. Within the framework of this paper the evaluation of the impact of this new development to the transportation system of the near area is presented together with the necessary traffic management measures in order to overcome traffic problems.
