Abstract

In this paper the objective is to estimate the alteration in the air pollution, during the last ten years, in a rather typical Greek town, First of all an attempt was made to document the sources of air pollution, caused by traffic and by space heating emissions. The data were applied to models, which calculate the total load of each emission: VOC, SO2, NOx2 CO, Pb, TSP. For the computation of the actual emission, information was needed concerning the mean seasonal temperature, average speed cylinder displacement, year of manufacturing for the conventional cars, or catalytic type used, average trip length, and the kind of the heating fuel. The maximum center and spatial averaged concentrations were estimated. Air quality is also estimated the given that all vehicles were of catalytic technology. Finally, a comparison is made between the air pollution alteration caused by traffic and that by space heating emissions.
