Abstract

Determining passive stabilizer tanks dimensions using SPH simulations A. Souto', I. Laiz\ S. AbriPand R. Abaci* iShipbuilding Technical School Madrid Polytechnical University, Spain *Izar Shipbuilding Group, Puerto Real Factory, Cadiz, Spain Abstract Numerical simulation of passive stabilizer tanks for fishing vessels is done by means of the application of SPH (smoothed particle hidrodynamics) method. The results of the simulation have been validated with experimen- tal tests corresponding to real configurations. The results are promising but further work has yet to be done. 1 Introduction Passive stabilizer tanks are used successfully in fishing and cable-laying ves- sels to dampen their roll movement. They might be applied to other types of ships such as ferries [5] or cruisers in which the reduction of the roll move- ment of the ship directly affects the comfort of the passage. Although their project has been approached thus far without problems using experimental
