Abstract

In this paper we face the problem of determining good stowage plans for an Italian maritime terminal. In particular we introduce a 0/1 model for the Master Bay Plan (MBP) problem, that is the problem of stowing containers of different types into available cells of a containership with respect to a set of structural and operational constraints for maximising the global productivity of the terminal. We present some pre-processing rules derived from the operative scenario that enable us to take into a proper account the containers handling operations for a further optimisation of the stowage time. Such rules are also aimed at relaxing some constraints of this NP-hard problem thus making solvable the model itself within a small computational time. A validation of the proposed approach is given together with the analysis of the results related to real in
