Abstract

The regulatory framework in which European public transport companies operate has evolved quite rapidly since the mid-eighties. However, in Italy, in spite of a number of measures aiming at restraining public intervention in the provision of the service (subsidies, financial incentives, cost refunds, and so on), only recently, the public transport sector has initiated a structural reorganisation.
