The totally of costs caused by owing and using a car is seldom known or even perceived. Who does truly think about including wear and tear, insurance, annual car taxes and similar costs when sharing the cost of a common car trip? Knowing the exact amount of vehicle-associated costs of different transport means may induce people to switch to public transport. It may also be of greatest importance for urban collective passenger or freight service providers: for the former their cost figures play an important role, for instance, when negotiating the subsidy level with the authority, especially in tendering procedures.
