Abstract

Pavement Management Systems (PMS) are increasingly important tools for helping in decision-making processes regarding the maintenance and rehabilitation of road pavements. This paper presents a new mixed-integer optimisation model to be used within a PMS. The model allows segment-linked decisions, thus overcoming the principal drawback of the widely-used Arizona PMS. The application of the model is illustrated with a case study developed for the ring road of Coimbra, the third-largest Portuguese city. 1 Introduction The potential for development and the quality of life offered by urban or regional areas is closely dependent upon the attributes of their road network.
