Abstract

This paper presents a study recently made to establish guidelines for the south expansion of the Porto Metropolitan Area light-metro system in the short-, the medium, and the long-term. The Porto Metropolitan Area, in northen Portugal, has approximately 1,200,000 inhabitants and is one of the fastest-growing regions of the country. The initial solution adopted for the light-metro system will properly serve the north part of the area, but it is far from matching the transport needs of people living in the south part 1 Introduction Light-metro is an increasingly popular urban transport mode.
