Abstract

Haifa Economic Corporation are planning to construct a new marina at Haifa, Israel. The marina is to be protected from the most severe westerly waves by a number of breakwaters and seawalls. To attract tourists a crescent shaped beach of golden sand is to be constructed to the southwest end of the marina complex. This paper follows the development of the proposed Haifa Marina Resort, from initial design to the optimisation of the breakwater and artificial beach sections. This paper will consider the innovative numerical and physical modeling techniques used to determine the stability and hydraulic performance of the breakwaters and the plan shape / cross sections of the beach.
