Abstract

A numerical scheme is developed for the three-dimensional modelling of wave propagation relying on the solution of a suitable form of the basic hydrodynamic equations for irrotational fluid flow written in terms of the velocity components u,v,w and the dynamic fluid pressure p. Free surface elevation £ is calculated by means of a depth integrated form of these equations. The formulation of the relevant mathematical equations and the details of the employed numerical scheme are presented. In view of the complexity of the problem, results are obtained only for the ID-Vertical case. The uni-directional propagation of a small amplitude sinusoidal wave and a second order Stokes wave is examined. In both cases, numerical results are fairly succesful in reproducing the correspondin
