Abstract

Trends and achievements in the development of the European codes for earthquake resistant design E. Keintzel Institut fur Massivbau und Baustofftechnologie, Universitdt Karlsruhe, W-7500 Karlsruhe, Germany ABSTRACT A survey of the development of the European Seismic Codes is presented in the introduction, beginning with the first approaches in the 18th century. Comparisons are then made between design parameters taken from different European National Codes. Finally, some characteristic features of Eurocode 8 are outlined, which appear to provide guidance for future harmonization.
