Abstract

This paper describes the implementation of an expert system for aided piloting in a seaport. The application, developed for Windows 95, is intended to serve as a simulation and training tool for students and professionals in the field of naval manoeuvres. The Knowledge Base consists mainly of The International Regulation for the Prevention of Boarding, and incorporates the knowledge of several experts (pilots) which co-operate to provide the expert knowledge necessary to supplement the Knowledge Base. The prototype development follows the rules of the CommonKADS methodology and enables both knowledge acquisition and the implementation of the expert system.
