Abstract

Central Japan Railway operates urban commuter lines and have approximately 1800 level crossings. In the urban area, at the most busiest level crossing, 400 or more cars pass through the level crossing in one hour. Furthermore 20 trains or more train traffic passes in one track only in one hour. Hence if the level crossing protects double track, 40 or more train traffic passes the level crossing in one hour. This naturally demands high reliability of level crossing protection. This paper explains its system configuration, philisophy of system designing, its configuration and short distance track circuit for level crossing. 1 Introduction With the help of the technological progress, the number of railway accidents is decreasing, especailly in the urban commuting railway, w
