Abstract

In the paper it is described the conservation of the medieval portal of the Lagopesole castle chapel, in the south of Italy. With a correct methodology of restoration, after a diagnostic aids, it has been possible to choose the minimum operation to slacken the natural deterioration that every outdoor handmade stone are subjected. 1 Introduction In the restoration of masonry materials, as in the architectural and artistic one, it is very important to use a correct methodological approach. Only the exact knowledge of the object and his history, the technique used, the intrinsic chemical and structural properties of his constitutive materials, his environments, the climate and micro climate, kind of alteration forms, and physical and chemical pollution agents, will give the right diagnoses about
