Abstract

This paper introduces a boundary element solution for thick Reissner plates, with free-edge conditions, resting on a generalized elastic foundation. Explicit expressions for fundamental solution parameters are given in terms of separated complex Bessel functions. Case studies based upon circular and rectangular plates, under different types of loading, were analysed, and the BEM results obtained have confirmed the accuracy of the derivations introduced. 1 Introduction The actual behaviour of plates on deformable foundations is a complex phenomenon, which has led to the development of many idealized foundation models. Generalized foundation models represent a compromise between the completely discontinuous Winkler model and the completely continuous elastic solid model [1], and the most popular general
