Abstract

Three-dimensional CFD modelling of blood flow through asymmetric stenosis Y. Noguchi & M.I. Wishah School of Aeronautical Engineering University of Salford Salford, UK Abstract A Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) model of three-dimensional blood flow in a blocked blood vessel is studied. The significance of this research is to provide a more realistic CFD analysis involving blocked or stenosed arteries and to obtain a useful information on the haemodynamics of blood flow. A solid model of blood vessel with an asymmetric stenosis of a 50% opening is developed using Auto-CAD Solid Modelling Map package. The solid model is directly imported into Ansys FLOTRAN 5.7. The solutions are analysed and compared with the results of flow visualisation measurements for various Reynolds numbers. The results show good agreement with measurements and show the areas of high wall shear stress at the throat of the stenosis. 1 Introduction The blood flow in the body is difficult to measure.
