Abstract

In recent years, composite materials and ceramics-metal joints are investigated from a view of new technology for developing the industrial products. In these materials, the stress concentrations occur at the vicinity of joint vertex, and delamination and cracks are caused due to the stress concentrations. In the present study, we derived the fundamental solution for a unit force acting at a point in a two-phase transversely isotropic material. We developed a three-dimensional boundary element program using the fundamental solution. We conducted the stress analysis for the joint composed of Ti and Mg, and showed the stress distributions near a vertex and free surfaces. The stress intensity factors for the order of stress singularity at the vertex are estimated from stress distributions.
