Abstract

Inverse acoustic scattering for shape identification in two dimensional problem H. Kawabe Department of Mechanical Engineering, National Defence Academy, 1-10-20 Hashirimizu, Yokosuka, Kanagawa 239, Japan ABSTRACT This report is concerned with an inverse acoustic scattering problem for shape identification. The inverse problem under consideration is to determine the shape of a sound hard obstacle in the acoustic field from a knowledge of the time- harmonic incident acoustic wave and the far field pattern of the scattered wave. The integral equation that is based on the relation between the slight modification of the boundary shape and sound scattering field is introduced. Using the integral equation and Schiffer's theorem, a numerical method for inverse acoustic scattering problem for shape identification is presented. Results of calculation show this method to be practically useful for shape identification. 1 INTRODUCTION We use SONAR system to search for what
