Abstract

In this paper, we derive a generalized fundamental solution which is used in formulating a generalized BIE for heat conduction in heterogenous media. The generalized fundamental solution is derived as a locally radially symmetric response to a non-symmetric singular forcing function. The fundamental solution varies within the domain as the source point changes position. Numerical examples are provided and excellent results are obtained using the generalized BIE. 1. Introduction Heat conduction problems in non-homogeneous media pose a great challenge for boundary elements methods. If the domain can be broken up into several sub-domains within each of which the property can be assumed to be constant, the problem is solved by a BEM formulation in each sub-domain along wit
