Abstract

This paper presents a numerical scheme, based on uniform cubic B-spline boundary elements, to simulate a viscous fingering problem. The advantage of using this approximation is that it provides a high degree of continuity for both the geometry and velocity interpolations. The satisfactory results obtained attest that the method is well suited for handling the evolution of moving surfaces. 1 Introduction The phenomenum of viscous fingering in a porous medium refers to the onset and evolution of instabilities that occur in the displacement of the interface between two immiscible fluids with different viscosities. This fingering instability appears when a fluid of higher viscosity is penetrated by another fluid of lower vis
