Abstract

An iterative technique for numerical simulation of the static coupling between an electric field and a liquid droplet of given volume is presented. Assuming an initial shape of the droplet, the electric field is analyzed by means of the bound- ary element method. Next, the hydrostatic and electric pressures on the droplet surface are balanced and used for prediction of the droplet distortion. Iterations are continued until convergence is reached. Calculations have been performed for different values of the Bond number, dimensionless electric number (electric Bond number), and for two basic models: a droplet attached to an electrode and a free droplet. 1 Introduction A number of problems in engineering and science involve interaction between an electric field and liquid droplets.
