Abstract

The two integral operators in the direct BEM appear individually in two differ- ent formulations of the indirect BEM. This makes it possible to study the numerical error and other problems in each integral operator and the interaction of the two integral operators in the direct BEM. This paper reports some prelim- inary results on the two indirect BEM and the direct BEM. 1 Introduction The boundary element method (BEM) has many of its roots in potential theory (Kellogg [1953]) where the field behavior was simulated by superposition of singular solutions. The indirect boundary integral equations were a natural extension of this thinking of superposition of singular solutions. Different types of singularities associated with different orders of singular behavior can be used in formulating the integral equation
