Abstract

: This is a paper on engineering design and the need for Artificial Intelligence to support design engineers of all disciplines and working in multinational environments. Consideration is given to the creation of a global Knowledge Based System to support co-ordinated multinational design and the issues involved in implementing this strategy. The issue of design diversity is considered with respect to the influence of culture on design and our hypothesis of the existence of cultural knowledge.
